An Assassin's Creed Game Without Stealth?

The Assassin's Creed franchise has always been all about stealth, but have they changed this pivotal feature?

Assassin's Creed Valhalla reminds me of Skyrim. Valhalla is an action role-playing video game. The Assassin's Creed series is an award-winning video game series that currently consists of twelve main games, seventeen spin-off games, several short films and various transmedia projects. Unlike past installments, Valhalla takes place in the Viking period.

Stealth Gameplay

In Assassin's Creed Valhalla there are two main options of playing the game.

One option is to play the game stealthy. The world of Valhalla is vast and open. A player can use the long grass, bushes, hay bales and more to hide from enemies. A player must crouch in these areas to be completely hidden.

Secondly, the player can choose an all-out-attack method. This is a new feature in the Assassin's Creed franchise. The introduction of Vikings and raids made this possible. A Viking is a tank and is meant to push through enemies ruthlessly.

Character Stealth

Unlike past Assassin's Creed games you do not start out with the ability to assassinate enemies. It is now an ability that has to be unlocked later in the game. I was pretty mad about this. My favorite part of Assassin's Creed was always walking up to unsuspecting enemies and assassinating them.

Stealth Attack

There are many ways to stealth attack in Valhalla.

The main way is known as an assassination. An assassination is done by sneaking up to an enemy. Once the player gets close enough, they will have the option to do a quick takedown depending on the enemy's and their own skill level. This is the only real way to assassinate an enemy in Valhalla.

In past games, there were many more options. These included, double assassinations, aerial assassinations and many more.

Overall Stealth Rating

6/10 - Valhalla is a game I spent more than 100 hours playing, but it just doesn't feel the same without the assassination options we had in past games.
